For Alila Ventana, sustainability is a way of life. As California’s leading eco-friendly resort, we are committed to preserving this iconic landscape.
Our property-wide sustainability initiatives touch every part of our resort from food and beverage to design and day-to-day operations. We utilize the latest methods and technology to ensure our conservation efforts are both efficient and impactful. With experts at the helm to guide our practices, we take every measure to create a better tomorrow.
As a California-based property, we’re especially dedicated to reducing water consumption and maximizing efforts to reuse wherever possible. All of the property’s wastewater is recycled in a geo-flow subterranean drip system which is then reused to support our irrigation system which is turned off during periods of rain or cold. We utilize low-water consumption faucets and toilets in guest room bathrooms and the Sur House in particular features waterless urinals.
The property uses energy-efficient LED lighting, HVAC systems with energy-saving smart-room technology, and all nonessential equipment is shut off when not in use. Guests have a daily voluntary towel reuse option and the resort’s laundry system provides reusable bags for dirty and clean linens. Old terry cloth and linens are also recycled for use as rags to reduce waste.
Our grounds feature drought-tolerant, California-friendly landscaping.
We are a styrofoam-free property with reusable water bottles with refilling stations throughout to reduce the use of plastic. We’re also mindful to use non-toxic and environmentally friendly cleaning products to be sensitive to the environment and our guests’ health.
From our kitchens, cooking grease, grease-trap grease and HVAC/refrigeration fluids are reclaimed, reused and recycled. Plant waste is chipped, mulched and returned to the earth. We also utilize an extensive property-wide recycling program for paper, newspaper, cardboard, cans, glass, aluminum, plastic, fluorescent bulbs, dry cell batteries, small amounts of copper and brass, waste oil, paints, solvents, ink cartridges and obsolete office equipment.
Ventana maintains membership in the Monterey Bay Aquarium’s Seafood Watch program and adheres to guidelines on buying and serving seafood from sustainable sources. Whenever possible, the Sur House serves local, sustainably sourced organic vegetables, fruit, seafood and meat and uses fair-trade organic coffees and teas. Ventana provides on-property housing for more than 40 employees, helping to reduce traffic and vehicle emissions. We have three electric-vehicle charging stations for our guests utilizing environmentally friendly plug-in hybrid or electric vehicles, including eight Tesla superchargers and two regular chargers. Throughout the property, select furniture is made from reclaimed wood from the Ventana property and surrounding area.
